Tambopata Tours Macaw Clay Lick Center 5d/4n - sandoval lake lodge

Amazon Peru Travel 4days/ 3nights

Amazon Peru Travel 4days: From the Puerto Maldonado airport we transfer to the Tambopata River boat dock where we begin our exciting river journey on the mighty Madre de Dios River. On the river we spot an array of birdlife endemic to this region as well as families of Capybaras (the world’s largest rodent). As we approach our destination ‑ the Heath River Wildlife Centre ‑ we enjoy views of local villages with children splashing by the banks. During our time at the lodge we visit the parrot and macaw lick, a noisy and unforgettable experience as hundreds of birds jostle over the best eating spots on the clay lick. The extensive network of trails within the grounds provide ample opportunity to view brazil‑nut, kapok and fig trees among many others, and a guided tour will provide narrative about the many medicinal and commercial uses of much of the vegetation. At night the rainforest comes alive with an ever‑changing orchestra of monkeys, frogs, insects and a teeming array of other nightlife. You can even choose to camp out overnight to experience a full night in the heart of the rainforest. We take to the water again for a boat journey to Lake Sandoval Lodge, where we can spot the Amazonian giant otter, macaws and Lake Sandoval monkeys. We take a nighttime canoe trip to spot the Amazonian cousin of the alligator, the black caiman, which although endangered can be commonly seen in this pristine protected lake to Amazon Peru Travel .

The walkway is among tierra firme forest, atop a ridge. The steps take you around and up trunks and branches – through the lush vegetation, to the tops of immense trees. built on a slope, from the walkway’s higher points you can see over the trees: a rolling ocean of multi-hued green, unbroken forest stretching as far as the eye can see. It is an awe-inspiring sight.

Short description of the Amazon Peru Travel:

Amazon Peru Travel : Of the other excursions available, the one most highly recommended by other guests was a morning on Lake Sandoval. Situated on the far side of the river, in the 680,000-acre Tambopata National Reserve, this unspoilt stretch of water fringed with tall, thin aguaje palms accommodates three-toed sloths, red howler monkeys, side-neck turtles, and any number of exotic birds. A less popular inhabitant is the anaconda: we met a boatman who had ill-advisedly taken on a 20-foot specimen, and only been saved by the timely arrival of a party of tourists.

Leaving the lodge in the pale dawn, we travelled upriver to a landing stage which marked the beginning of a two-mile track through the forest. The cry of a kite and a flypast of chestnut-fronted macaws greeted us; white-bellied parrots perched on the trunk of a date-laden palm, and a moth the size of my hand flopped across our path.

Another early wake up expects us today as we go to the surroundings of the Sandoval Lake where huge number of various palms grow in its water creating an area of marsh.

This place is called Collpa de Palmeras and it attracts various macaw species and other parrots to eat sawdust of its palms as it contains sodium, calcium, potassium and other minerals helping them to digest. Then, we go back to the lodge to be given breakfast. Later, we take a next trip going to observe stunning flora and fauna of the Sandoval Lake Reserve. We can appreciate monkeys, deer, wild boars, tapirs or spectacled bears, just to name a few. For lunch, we get back to the lodge. Afterwards, we have given some time off to rest or enjoy a bath in the Sandoval Lake (no worries, there are no piranhas or other danger animals during the day).

Then, we board a canoe to cross the lake to a place where we can better appreciate a beautiful sunset above the lake! At 7 pm, we return to the lodge for dinner while waiting for the moonlight, a suitable time to go watching caimans again! An overnight is in the Maloka lodge.
